Hey, dipshit. It was JOE Niekro. You know, the Astro for 11 years. His name is in the title.

Is this 1991? I’ll put on my Zubaz.

Anyway, from a purely objective standpoint, you completely botched your Boy Meets World analysis Over There. Rewatch the episode (Father Knows Less, Episode 3) if you don’t believe me.

Did I? I was using the show as a springboard for a particular . I did leave out the bit about Feeny’s Dad’s alcoholism, his childless essay, and so on. I meant to mention the dad part in passing but apparently didn’t. It wasn’t central to Feeny’s argument, at any rate.

          Did I miss something else?

        • ScarletNumber says:

What you missed is that Feeny agreed that he should have watched Truman and that Eric should have watched the game with his father.

The lesser tangential point that is it wasn’t as if Feeny’s father had some great love of education. Rather, the father wanted to hang out with his buddies and didn’t want his son around.

Here is the clip, but the whole episode is worth rewatching. The Feeny quote that occurs right after you stopped quoting him was, “[i]t is important that a boy spend time with his father.”

I didn’t interpret that line as a concession, exactly. Rather, an admission that he does see the cost of what he’s saying. And his line to Cory’s dad later… he can’t bring himself to say that he’d do the same reason. Just that he understands.

My impression, at least, is that Cory got that F. That’s one of the reasons why the episode resonated.
