So I am supposed to be moving stuff with the UHaul right now. I am not moving stuff with the UHaul right now.

The local UHaul isn’t open on weekends.

We UHauled some stuff on Tuesday, but because the baby was not very cooperative we didn’t get everything done as we had hoped. So upon returning it on Wednesday, I told them we’d need it again on Saturday. He said that, since they aren’t open on Saturdays, I should pick it up on Friday. I got clarification that I would only be charged for the day that I asked for.

So then yesterday I roll on up, and the guy working says that they can’t give it to me on Friday without charging me for Friday. He says that I need to call someone on Saturday and they will come in to hook me up. I called the guy and left a message, and can’t do anything more until he calls back. I have a sneaking suspicion that he is not expecting a call today.

I don’t care whether I should pick it up on Friday or whether they should have someone come in on Saturday. I do wish that they would simply have some procedure in place. It’s not like wanting a UHaul on a weekend is some unusual thing.

    Wow.

As an established brand, I’m surprised that UHaul is not better managed. Is the problem limited to this particular franchise or location? Has the housing crash ruined their business model?

The problem we had the first time around was not limited to this location. Basically, I made a reservation for a van through the central office on Monday only to be informed Thursday that they didn’t have what I was looking for. What they offered in exchange for that was unacceptable to us (drive for an hour to pick it up, but then I would have had to leave it in Callie and somehow figure out a way to drive up and pick up my vehicle.

Which is how we took the plunge and put the hitch on the Forester to work.

The problem we had this time was limited to this particular location.

UHaul has been a major target of consumer complaints for many many years. Certainly since long before the housing crisis.

Uhaul not open on weekends. But that’s when people move.

I think I’ve dealt with Uhauls that weren’t open Sunday, so they just made you bring it back Monday. But no weekends would seem ridiculous.

I had to move with a baby once, and it really sucked. My husband impressed a clerical employee into weekend babysitting duty. We accidentally either left behind or threw out some nice kitchen stuff we never found.

Well, we got our UHaul. About two hours after this, I got a call back from Mr. Saturday’s son. Mr. Saturday was way out of town and so he had to take care of it. On Sunday, they just had us drop the thing off. So, I learned how to unhook a UHaul today!

Nothing written on this site should be taken as strictly true, though if the author were making it all up rest assured the main character and his life would be a lot less unremarkable.
