Because it’s important that Ben Roethlisberger become a good person again:

Okay, not really. Ordinarily, I do root for the Packers above most teams. I think as a kid I was attracted to the colors of the team. Plus, they’re the only non-profit and community-owned team in major league sports. Given stadium subsidization and the like, I think that ought to be the norm. However…

Back when I was working for Mindstorm, I became friends with a guy from Pittsburgh. He was a huge Steelers fan. And as he explained it, Pittsburghers have a whole lot vested in the Steelers because it’s a town that doesn’t have much else. I’ve historically wished Detroit teams well on this basis, so I find myself incredibly sympathetic to the Steelers for this game. But if the Packers win, I can’t say that I will be to bothered.

The important thing is that the New England Patriots aren’t playing.

    What? They’ve got a world class university in Carnegie Mellon; they’ve got Alcoa, Heinz, FreeMarkets, Bayer U.S., Allegheny Technologies, the Pirates, the Penguins, etc. I’m sure they’ve got a lot more going for them than Green Bay.

    I consider the Packers to be Wisconsin’s team and by and large the people I know from Wisconsin seem to at least feel like it has going for it than people from Pittsburgh about their city {shrug}

    In any event, I actually tried to root for Pittsburgh and failed. Too many years rooting for the Packers, I guess.

    Now if you want a city that has nothing else, it’s Detroit. Not only is the town look like Bulgaria, their football team has NEVER made it the big game. At least the Steelers have championships.

    Oh, and cheese makes everything better. Or so say Packer fans.

    It was a pretty good game.

    I was only disappointed because B. J. Ravi, the six-hundred-pound nose tackle for the Packers, did not get a pick-six and lumber down the field like he did in the NFC Championship game. That was a very entertaining sight indeed.

    I couldn’t have asked much more of the game itself.

  6. Maria says:

    I meant B. J. Raji, not Ravi. But yeah, it was one of the better games, for a game that is often ridiculously lop-sided and boring.

    Pittsburgh periodically makes one of those lists of the best US big cities to live in.

    That was true in the past, but lately the Super Bowl has been a good game more often than not.

    I am glad the Packers won, since they have the fewer molesters, now that Mark Chmura has retired.

    Hated him.
