In 2013, eighty-seven folks were exonerated of the crimes for which they were convicted. Twenty-seven of them were exonerated for convictions of murder, arson, and sex crimes that it was determined never happened (or weren’t crimes).

That so many of the men who had been wrongly imprisoned were black proves how racist our system is.
That so many were probably poor proves how classist our system is.
That so many rapists were released on a technicality proves that our system has no respect for victims rights when it comes to rape.
