Hypocrites! People who say that they’re concerned about climate change use more electricity than those who aren’t! Ha! Actually, that’s mostly a function of confounding factors, but even controlling for them there doesn’t seem to be all that much difference.
It’s pretty convenient for both sides to ignore rural poverty. Republicans don’t like to admit that some of their home turf is disproportionately poor. Democrats like to consider the poor “theirs.”

It admittedly makes some sense given it’s higher income people who tend to notice and care about this issue, and they’re more likely to have more stuff that ends up consuming more electricity.

I would argue that the Republicans don’t “care” since they do have those votes locked up, and the DNC ends up trying addressing the issue via black rural poverty which just gets lumped into the general cause of black and Hispanic poverty.
Will you be watching college football tonight?
Saturday night I will be watching Rutgers play its first B1G game against Penn State. It will air on the Big Ten Network.
Good luck! I saw that Flood got a contract extension, and was a bit surprised by that.
I didn’t watch any games last night, though I followed a couple on my phone.
Yes I was too. I guess he was able to convince Julie Hermann because by extending his contract by two years through 2018 it will help with recruiting. He is also the lowest paid coach in the B1G, the only one paid 6 figures.
Anyway we are going to need luck, even though we are only 3 point underdogs. It might get ugly.
As for last night’s game, I was impressed that the losing team was able to keep it so close.
After 3 quarters, SUNJ 10, PSU 3, but PSU is on the Rutgers 16.
Yes, college football takes a long time.
13:99 left. Rutgers 10-6
That should have been 13:00
1:13 left
Penn State 13, Rutgers 10
Ugh, that’s a final.
The line went up to 3½, so Rutgers covered.
Well, kept it close at any rate. Against a Penn State team that is probably jazzed because of the whole sanctions thing.
Because I was in transit, I missed almost all of college football today. I did catch the close of half-time between A&M and Rice, where an A&M penalty cost Rice a field goal (the longest the kicker had ever made).
A question I have about Carlos Slim’s plan is how would it play out over the next few decades as the combination of automation, offshoring and immigration expands the unemployed population? Fewer hours per worker per week could open up more opportunities for employment in the short term, but I think that cost pressure pushing employers to offshore and even moreso automation will eventually dwarf that effect. When computers and robots can do everything that a human worker does and do it better, why keep human workers around? But if they aren’t kept around, how does society handle the giant new underclass?
