   I used to be critical of Lois Lane for not recognizing “Clark without the glasses is superman,” but then one day recently we had a regular patron come in and the only difference from his usual appearance was that he was wearing a ball cap. I didn’t recognize him until he spoke to me.

     I have similar problems with students. I think I have a little bit of what they call “face blindness” and if one of the men in my class shaves his beard or one of the women dyes her hair, I don’t always recognize them.
