It actually makes sense. Sweden hasn’t been involved in a war in something like 200 years, so reminding its citizens that things aren’t quite so peaceful elsewhere in the world may be an effective recruiting tool. Especially since the likely use of this Nordic Force would be in a peacekeeping role.
One correction, the US ad is for the Marines, not the Army.
Yeah, that should have said “armed services recruitment.” It probably speaks better of the Swedish that they appeal to nobility while we appeal to glory, but you’re right that it makes sense.
I suppose. Probably the real attraction of the Swedish army would be to Swedish boys who find the peaceful Scandinavian life too boring. This might actually be a subtle way of saying ‘Come here and you can run around in tanks! Fire guns!’ when that isn’t PC.
I always found it mystifying on an emotional level, but there’s a certain portion of the male population that always wants to do this. We evolved to have warrior genes, and they remain.

Why would Sweden use a Niuean domain?
Anyway, I am of the belief that all armies should be composed of only draftees, but that is a long, long post for another day.

Good question, Knight. If you ever want a place to park your post on the draft, let me know. We may have to do something about your handle, though…

Hey, that’s a pretty fantastic point.
