“I need your help.”
“What’s up?”
“What should I major in?”
“What do you want to do with the rest of your life.”
“I’m not sure, but I have to register for class in an hour and I need a major.”

I would have told the student to major in animal husbandry because that was a suggested major for me at a North Carolina school when I was a potential freshman.
When I was applying to film school, the registrar told me that the film school was full, but I could major in animal husbandry until there was an opening in the film department. When I said I would just major in communications (radio and television), she said, again, I should major in animal husbandry because the communications slots were filled. I finally said forget it and went to another school where we weren’t required to declare a major until sophomore year. Incidentally, I majored in English and now work at a national publication.
To this day, I can’t help but wonder if any animal husbandry majors are working on Oscar-winning projects or reporting the news at CNN.
Or they could be stuck breeding naked mole rats…
It never even occured to me to ask my school what I should major in.
